Video is one of the strongest multimedia elements because it combines image, motion, and sound. But strong video output begins before recording.
Useful planning tools include:
A video for a university event recap and a video for a software tutorial are not planned the same way. The first may focus on emotional highlights. The second must focus on screen clarity, sequence, and readability.
Good planning also prevents continuity errors. If a speaker suddenly changes position or a process step is skipped, viewers notice.
To make good decisions, understand these core terms.
Examples: 1280 × 720, 1920 × 1080, 3840 × 2160. Higher resolution increases detail but also increases processing and storage needs.
Frame rate is measured in frames per second (fps), such as 24 fps, 30 fps, 60 fps. Higher frame rate gives smoother motion, especially for games, sports, or UI demos.
A codec compresses and decompresses video data. It affects quality, compatibility, and file size.
A container is the file wrapper, such as MP4, MOV, MKV.
Many students confuse codec and container. Remember: codec = how the data is compressed; container = how the data is packaged. Bitrate also matters — higher bitrate usually means higher quality and larger files.
